Wal-Mart International has chosen Murali Lanka as chief operations officer for its Indian business unit. Lanka will lead store operations and business development in the retailer’s wholesale business there. He will be relocating from his role as a developmental regional general manager in the U.S. but has earlier experience in the Indian business.
Walmart India plans to rollout 50 more wholesale outlets in the next 48 months adding to the 20 already in operation.
Lanka will begin in this new role effective Dec. 1 and report to Walmart India CEO Krish Iyer.
Arvind Mediratta, who was the company's chief operating officer in India, was appointed as a senior vice president at its U.S. headquarters in August.
